Demolish It!

The battleground of spiritual warfare lies in the realm of truth and lies. Beliefs determine behavior. We see that in modern day culture, and it is visible in Scripture. All the way back to the Garden of Eden, every attack from the enemy has been rooted in an attack on truth. Satan asked Eve, “Did God really say…?”

His tactics today remain similar. Culture surrounds us with ideas, thoughts, worldviews, and blatant societal norms that contradict the Truth of God. The world we live in is beautiful and full of God’s rich blessings. But one doesn’t have to look too closely to notice the messages from the enemy that sometimes feel as though they are being screamed at us and at our children. Praise God, He gives us an action plan! We do not have to live in fear of the enemy or his lies! But we do have to be prepared, seek His wisdom, and train our children to do the same.

II Corinthians 10:4-5 says "Although we live in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh, since the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but are powerful through God for the demolition of strongholds. We demolish arguments, and every proud thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ."

These verses use the word demolish. Have you ever seen a demolished building? There is nothing left. Materials are hauled away, and the ground is leveled for new construction—not even the hole in the ground from the foundation is left. This is what we are told to do against even the arguments that contradict what we know of God. When we encounter a lie from the enemy, we are to DEMOLISH it. This language from God is not gentle. It is not gray, or slight. It does not entertain possibility or engage in debate. It is absolute and without question or exception. DEMOLISH IT. And then bring your thoughts into such obedience to Christ they are captive to His Truth.

Alexander Solzenheitsen wrote about his experience in Communist Russia, “In keeping silent about evil, in burying it so deep within us that no sign of it appears on the surface, we are implanting it, and it will rise up a thousand-fold in the future.” What we don’t weed out will take root and grow, and our children will reap the fruit. So, what does a Mom on the warpath against the enemy look like? It’s not nearly as fantastical or glamorous as TV has trained us to imagine.

Simply put, a Mom on the warpath is a Mom on alert for lies, weeding them out like a diligent gardener, then planting seeds of Truth. She builds relationships with her children that allow for deep conversation. She seeks wisdom for boundaries that protect. She creates opportunities for real connection, so that she can recognize bad seeds at the start. She saturates her children’s lives with Truth of Scripture, praying it over them, speaking it to them as part of daily life. We tend to think of Warrior Moms as outspoken women, and for some that is true. But it doesn’t have to be. Boldness and strength can also be quiet. No matter what personality God gave you, your mission is the same. Guard your heart, so that you can guard the minds of your children. And raise them up to reap the fruits of God’s Truth.
